New To The District? Good Info To Know.
At Lipan ISD, it is our sincere wish to provide your child with the best health care possible during school hours. This will help you understand how health needs are met within our district and encourage you to communicate your needs to us so that we can best serve your child.
Please keep your child home if they are sick. The child must be fever/symptom free for 24 hours WITHOUT medication, such as Advil or Tylenol, before returning to school.
IMMUNIZATIONS
Immunizations are a priority at the beginning of the school year. If students are not immunized fully for the diseases specified by the Texas Department of State Health Services, the students are prohibited from attending public schools until the needed initial vaccines are received. Vaccines will be required as soon as medically feasible and according to the required schedule. A vaccination clinic is held every spring primarily for seniors planning to attend college, incoming 7th graders and any PreK students needing vaccines. Please call the campus for the most current dates and times or refer to the nurse’s website. At the secondary level, schedules will be held and students will not be able to attend classes until vaccine records are received and up to date.
SENDING STUDENTS HOME
On occasion it may become necessary to call you to pick up your child.
*Please notify the nurse if there are any allergies or health concerns.
MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION
***Students may NOT carry or self-administer medications at school. Exceptions to this regulation is the use of Epinephrine for anaphylaxis, Insulin, and asthma inhalers. A physician’s signature for self administration will be necessary and will be kept on file in the nurse's office.
Medications given during school hours are required to meet the following guidelines to provide consistent and safe administration. The school nurse has discretion to use her professional judgment in medication administration.
All medication should be given at home whenever possible. If medication must be given during the school day, please time administration so that only one dose is required while the student is at school.
When it is necessary for prescription medications to be administered during school hours, ALL prescription medications must :

PLEASE NOTE: Only eye/ear drops or ointment preparations will be sent home on the bus. No oral medications will be sent home with the student. If oral medications must be sent to and from the clinic on a daily basis they will only be released to an adult. Listed below are items available for use in the school clinic. Unless notified in writing by parent/guardian we will use these preparations according to label directions should the need arise.
- Alocane
- Antibiotic ointment
- Benadryl ointment
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Saline solution
- Petroleum jelly`
- Hand lotion
***The District cannot assume any responsibility for loss or negligent behavior when a student carries his/her medication without knowledge of the nurse.
EXTRA CLOTHING:
Small children are prone to accidents from time to time whether that be a restroom accident, spilled drink or mud/water from the playground. PLEASE, keep a change of clothes in your child's backpack. This will prevent us from having to call and request you bring them when needed. I would especially recommend this for PK-1st grade.
REMINDERS:
We are dedicated to maintaining a healthy environment that will allow your child to achieve personal physical and academic growth. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school nurse.
- He/she has a fever of 100 degrees or greater.
- He/she has vomiting or diarrhea.
- He/she sustains an injury that may require a visit to your doctor.
- He/she has an unknown rash or symptoms that may indicate a communicable disease.
- He/she develops a condition which keeps the student from functioning in a school setting.
- It has been less than 24 hours since he/she ran fever or had symptoms without the use of medications.
- It is under the discretion of the nurse to make the decision to send a student home. The heath and safety of ALL students is our number one priority.
- Be provided by the parent and accompanied with a signed permission slip (nurse will provide this).
- Be in its original container and properly labeled. (Your pharmacy will provide you with a “school” bottle if you request it.)
- Be accompanied by a note from your child’s physician directing its use if medication is in sample form without prescription label.
- Have a signed permission slip for any student wishing to carry their inhaler with them. The nurse will also forward this permission slip to the attending physician for approval.
- The “first dose” of any prescription medication should be administered in a safe monitored environment by the parent. The “first dose” should be administered in an environment where the parent/guardian may observe for possible side effects. The nurse has discretion to refuse to give any initial medication she feels is possible dangerous to give in a school setting.
- Must be provided by the parent and accompanied with a signed permission slip.
- Must be in the original container and properly labeled (please send small bottles where possible due to limited storage space.)
- Must be age appropriate, unless otherwise directed with a note from your child’s physician.
